Smith County borders Macon County to our south, putting Carthage, Gordonsville, and the river country between them squarely in our everyday range. It is a county shaped by water and by a busy interstate corridor - and both shape the survey work it produces.
River Country With an Interstate Through It
The Cumberland River and the Caney Fork frame Smith County, and river-adjacent land brings its own survey questions: boundaries that follow or once followed the water, bottomland tracts with long-settled farm lines, and building sites where knowing the shape of the ground - and how water moves across it - matters before any plan is drawn.
